Dementia Treatments

In most cases, there is no way to cure the diseases that causes dementia. There is medication available that can alleviate some symptoms though. There is also a variety of drugs that can help with symptoms of Alzheimer's disease or slow the progression of it as well.

You may have access to the Access to drugs campaign. Alzheimer's drug treatments have already made a huge difference. They have improved the quality of life for thousands of people with Alzheimer's and indeed to their carers life as well. The Access to drugs campaign has already been a success but there is still much more work to be done.

There is still a lot of research to be done into the medication side of Alzheimer's and dementia treatment. But there are other therapies that can greatly improve peoples health.

Talking therapies have been shown to have a great impact on people suffering with dementia. They allow people to open up and speak in confidence to a trained professional about the problems and issues that are causing them concern.

Talking therapies include; cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling and psychotherapy.

We hope this helps you understand the treatment side of dementia and Alzheimer's a little better. What treatments will be offered to you really depends upon what is available in your area.

It is important to speak with your GP about this as they will be about to help you find the support and help that you need in your community.
